CARMEN by Antonio Gades and Carlos Saura

Internationally acclaimed Antonio Gades’ CARMEN was premiered in 1983 in collaboration with filmmaker Carlos Saura. The film and stage version brought flamenco to international audiences in a powerful, theatrical form. It has been praised for its authenticity, innovative choreography, and emotional depth. This work is considered a landmark in Spanish dance, blending traditional flamenco with modern storytelling, and for the first time on stage contrasting the extraordinary music by Bizet with live flamenco music.

As Gades once said: “I wanted to include the music that had inspired Bizet in the first place; the original popular music, to show how a guitar and a flamenco singer can have as much or even more power, at certain moments, than an orchestra with a hundred maestros”.

The ballet was on stages of the most renowned theatres in the world of dance, such as The Royal Theatre Madrid, Sadler Wells London, New York City Center, Herodes Atticus (Acropolis) Athens, The Romano Theatre Verona, Bunkamura Orchard Hall Tokyo, Muscat Royal Opera House, – just to mention a few.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes. Touring party 31 person.
