JOHN MALKOVICH in a play with symphony orchestra
Roll Over Beethoven with John Malkovich
Roll Over Beethoven is a symphony orchestra concert starring John Malkovich. A testament – the letter written by Ludwig van Beethoven to his brothers, in which he for the first time confesses in his despair, isolation and existential struggle due to his progressing deafness.
In eight episodes, Beethoven traverses the polyphony of his states of consciousness. Each episode delves his inner world in a new tonal color: he alternates between eruptive rage, unbridled tirades of hatred, intimate whispers, and longing dreamy thoughts.
The play is not a historical retelling, but a present-day embodiment of inner contradictions. Due to the phenomenal actor John Malkovich, we meet Beethoven portrayed not as a monument to himself but as a tangible human being with tender self-irony, sharp mockery, sarcasm, and wit.
